The Miracle of Hope

Jul 19, 2026  •  Rev. William Mitchell

Life is hard — and no one is exempt from suffering. But in Romans 5:3-5 Paul hands us a formula for the miracle of hope: suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope — a hope that does not disappoint, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Mitchell explores what faith does with suffering that suffering alone cannot: the quiet heroism of a widow who cared for her husband through dementia, Beethoven composing music he would never hear, and the little boy who knew exactly why he wanted the puppy nobody else would choose. Suffering by itself can break or embitter us — but combined with faith, it tempers us like iron into steel, shaping people who are more understanding, more loving, more Christ-like, whose broken places become the very avenue God uses to touch someone else's life.
